Why bamboo compression gloves
Most compression gloves for arthritis are made from cotton-spandex or a thick synthetic knit. They work, but they can feel hot and tight after a few hours. Our FLEX+ Bamboo Compression Gloves are knit from viscose from bamboo blended with nylon and spandex, so they feel smooth on the skin and let air move through the fabric. That makes them easier to keep on through a workday, a long evening of knitting or a full night of sleep.
Each glove covers the palm, knuckles and wrist with gentle, even compression and a light layer of warmth. In a large UK study of arthritis gloves, warmth and comfort were the benefits people mentioned most often. That is what we designed these arthritis compression gloves around: soft support you forget you are wearing, not a stiff brace.
- Breathable bamboo knit that stays comfortable day and night
- Open fingertips so you can text, type, cook and thread a needle
- Gentle compression across the palm and finger joints
- Sold as a pair in Gray, Red, Blue, Cream and Performance Black
Fingerless vs full finger
Full-finger compression gloves cover every joint, but they make small tasks hard. You lose the feel of a phone screen, a button or a page, and many people end up taking them off every few minutes. Fingerless gloves for arthritis stop just past the middle knuckles. You still get support and warmth around the joints where most people feel stiffness, and your fingertips stay free.
If your stiffness is mostly in the fingertip joints, or you only want gloves for sleeping, a full-finger style may suit you. For everyday wear, most people find open-finger arthritis gloves for hands easier to live with.
How to choose your size
Use a soft tape measure to measure across your palm, just below the knuckles, without including your thumb. Compare the number with the size chart on the product page. The gloves come in Small, Medium and Large.
Between two sizes? Pick the larger one if your knuckles are enlarged or your hands tend to swell later in the day. The gloves should feel snug and even, never pinching. If your fingers tingle, turn pale or feel numb, take them off and size up.
Wearing them day and night
Many people put their gloves on at bedtime because hands often feel stiffest first thing in the morning. Others wear them during the day for typing, gardening, crafts or cold weather. There is no fixed schedule. Start with a few hours, see how your hands feel, and build up from there.
Wash them by hand or in a laundry bag on a cold machine cycle, then let them air dry. Having two pairs makes it easy to wear one while the other dries.
Compression gloves are a comfort aid. They do not replace the care plan from your doctor or hand therapist, so keep following it and ask them if gloves are a good fit for you. Want to know what the research says? Read our guide: Do arthritis gloves work?
Compression Gloves for Arthritis FAQ
Do arthritis gloves work?
Research on compression gloves is mixed. A large UK trial found that fitted arthritis gloves and looser warm gloves helped about the same, and most people in both groups said their gloves were worth wearing, mainly for warmth and comfort. Many people find soft gloves make stiff hands feel more comfortable, but they are a comfort aid, not a treatment.
Can I sleep in compression gloves?
Yes. Many people wear them overnight because hands often feel stiffest in the morning. Take them off if your fingers tingle, feel numb or change color, and check with your doctor first if you have poor circulation or diabetes.
How tight should compression gloves be?
Snug and even, like a firm handshake, without pinching or leaving deep marks. You should be able to bend your fingers and make a loose fist. If they feel tight at the knuckles or wrist, try the next size up.
How do I wash my gloves?
Hand wash, or machine wash cold inside a laundry bag, then air dry. Skip the dryer and fabric softener so the bamboo knit keeps its stretch.
Which size should I order?
Measure across your palm just below the knuckles, without the thumb, and match it to the size chart on the product page. If you are between sizes, or your knuckles are enlarged or your hands swell during the day, choose the larger size.
